Blackstone invests in S Korea haircare franchise Juno

Blackstone has agreed to invest in Juno, a South Korean haircare franchise with over 180 branches across the country and a presence in Singapore, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Juno, founded in 1982, focuses on beauty and wellness services and has recently expanded through franchise partners in Japan and Thailand.

Yun-Seon Kang, the company’s founder, will continue as CEO after the deal.

Blackstone said this is its fourth private equity investment in South Korea.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Blackstone builds beauty infrastructure rather than chasing brand valuations

Blackstone’s JUNO investment follows a clear pattern of targeting the operational backbone of the beauty industry rather than high-profile beauty brands themselves.

The firm has systematically acquired packaging companies that serve beauty giants, spending $800-900 million on cosmetics packager Shya Hsin in 2017, which produces containers for Lancôme and Christian Dior2, and $460 million for Essel Propack in 2019, the world’s largest laminated tube manufacturer serving oral care and beauty brands3.

These infrastructure plays offer more predictable cash flows than beauty brands, which face constant pressure from changing consumer preferences and marketing costs.

JUNO represents a natural evolution of this strategy. Instead of packaging, Blackstone is investing in the service infrastructure through franchise operations that generate recurring revenue from 180+ locations and training programs1.

This approach allows Blackstone to benefit from beauty industry growth without the volatility of individual brand performance or the capital intensity of manufacturing operations.

2️⃣ Korean hair care market fundamentals support franchise expansion timing

JUNO’s partnership comes as South Korea’s hair care market demonstrates consistent growth momentum that supports franchise business models.

The market is projected to grow from $1.33 billion in 2025 to $1.76 billion by 2030, representing a 5.70% compound annual growth rate4.
