AstraZeneca invests $21.5m to boost AI in Chennai

AstraZeneca has announced an investment of 176 crore rupees (US$21.1 million) to expand its Global Innovation and Technology Centre in Chennai.

The UK-based pharmaceutical company said the funds will be used to hire specialists in AI, data analytics, machine learning, and data science.

This is AstraZeneca’s third major investment in India in the past two years.

The company said the expansion is aimed at supporting growth in technology and innovation teams in the country.

AstraZeneca employs over 5,000 people in India, including at the Chennai centre.
