The ASEAN Foundation said the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Education endorsed AI Ready ASEAN.

The next phase of the regional program aims to equip more than 1.7 million students, K-12 teachers, and university faculty members with practical AI skills by the end of 2028.

The program will run across ASEAN with AVPN, a Singapore-based social-impact network, with support from Google.org and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The foundation said local implementing partners and education ministries in member states will help adapt curricula and deliver training.

The foundation said the new phase builds on the past two years of AI Ready ASEAN and shifts from AI awareness to applied use in teaching, learning, research, and workforce preparation.

AVPN and Google.org previously announced a US$15 million Asia-Pacific fund to support AI-related skilling.

It is unclear whether that fund supports the news phase of AI Ready ASEAN or what role ADB plays in it.
