Apple, Indonesia in talks over iPhone 16 investment gap
Apple is in talks with Indonesia about launching the iPhone 16 series.
The focus of the discussions with Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita is Apple’s compliance with the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirement, which is set at 40 percent for the iPhone 16’s market entry
Apple’s previous TKDN certification is no longer valid. Renewal requires addressing an investment gap of 235 billion rupiah (US$14.8 million).
Apple has invested 1.48 trillion rupiah (US$93.24 million) of the promised Rp1.71 trillion (US$107.73 million).
Despite the unmet commitments, fulfilling them would help Apple meet the 40 percent TKDN requirement. This would permit sales of the iPhone 16 in Indonesia.
