Amazon appoints Whole Foods CEO to lead grocery business
Amazon announced on Jan. 26 that Jason Buechel, CEO of Whole Foods, will now oversee the company’s global grocery business while retaining his leadership role at Whole Foods.
Buechel, who became Whole Foods CEO in 2022, will manage Amazon’s grocery initiatives, including its Fresh supermarket chain, Go cashierless stores, and online grocery services.
Since acquiring Whole Foods in 2017, Amazon has been unifying its grocery operations to serve a broader consumer base.
Key efforts include integrating grocery logistics and piloting automated warehouse concepts to streamline operations.
The company has also refined its cashierless checkout system, “Just Walk Out,” for third-party retailers.
