Amazon plans to end its same-day delivery service, Amazon Today, according to sources.

Launched in 2022, the service enabled retailers to offer quick delivery from physical stores.

Most of the service will end by 2 December, but some partners will continue until January 2025.

Amazon has informed CNBC that some employees will be laid off. Others will be shifted to new roles.

The closure is part of Amazon’s cost-cutting strategy under CEO Andy Jassy.

Since 2022, Amazon has reduced over 27,000 jobs, including projects like a telehealth service and a children’s video-calling device.
