Alibaba Cloud has launched Animate Anyone 2, an upgraded AI model that creates lifelike character animations from a static image and a video reference.

Developed by Tongyi Lab, the tool improves character-environment integration, allowing animations to retain their original environmental context.

This builds on the original Animate Anyone, which focused on motion signals.

Trained on 100,000 character videos, the model can generate animations for entertainment and advertising.

However, experts highlight concerns about its ability to render detailed emotions and facial expressions. The growing accessibility of such tools also raises ethical issues, particularly regarding deepfake content.

Despite these concerns, industry professionals see Animate Anyone 2 as valuable for generating sample content.
