AI Singapore has launched Sea-Lion v3, a language model tailored for Southeast Asia.

It runs on Google’s Gemma 2 platform, harnessing 200 billion tokens of regional data. This enhances its proficiency in 11 languages, with Javanese and Sudanese added.

Sea-Lion v3 is designed to boost language understanding and cultural context, which marks progress in regional AI capabilities.

While full benchmarks are pending, the model is reported to outperform other open-source models in Southeast Asian language tasks.
