US-based AI networking company Cornelis Networks has raised US$205 million in a round led by IAG Capital Partners and launched Active Compute Fabric, designed to let AI chips process and send data at the same time.

The aim is to reduce bottlenecks that leave graphics processing units, or GPUs, waiting for data.

Cornelis Networks, which appointed CEO Lisa Spelman in 2024, said it has started shipping the product. A new generation is expected later this year.

The company spun off from Intel in 2020 and continues the Omni-Path networking product line developed for high-performance computing, or HPC, systems.

Cornelis said its open architecture can work with different GPUs and accelerators.

It is positioning its networking fabric as an alternative for AI and HPC clusters, where Nvidia’s hardware and software stack remains the dominant option.
