MoneyHero management sought chairman’s ouster before CEO pick
A number of MoneyHero Group’s senior management team were pushing for board chairman Kenneth Chan to step down in late March, Tech in Asia has learned. This happened less than two weeks before the company appointed CFO Danny Leung as interim CEO on April 2.
On March 23, most of the senior management team signed a petition against Chan and submitted it to MoneyHero’s board, Tech in Asia understands.

The latest development marks an escalation in tensions between the board and management team at the Nasdaq-listed fintech company, which counts Hong Kong billionaire Richard Li’s Pacific Century Group among its majority shareholders.
Though MoneyHero’s financials have improved over the past two years, its operations and decision-making need to be streamlined, a source told Tech in Asia.
The firm also said on its April 2 announcement that it has begun a search for a permanent CEO. Leung succeeds Rohith Murthy, whose tenure as CEO lasted just over two years. The firm didn’t disclose a reason for Murthy’s departure.
When contacted by Tech in Asia, MoneyHero said it does not comment on internal matters, unverified claims, or speculation.
“The Board of Directors has full confidence in the Interim CEO, Danny Leung, and the management team to continue driving our strategic objectives with their full support and oversight during this transition period,” the spokesperson added.
Leung is the latest in a series of CEO changes at MoneyHero Group, which started even before the company went public in October 2023 via a merger with BridgeTown Holdings – the special purpose acquisition company backed by Li and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel.
Revenue has trended upward since early 2025, and the firm said last December that it expects to achieve positive adjusted EBITDA in the fourth quarter of 2025.
In January, Tech in Asia reported that MoneyHero Group had opened an internal investigation led by its general counsel and an external law firm after two employee complaints were lodged against Chan in November and December 2025.
Tech in Asia understands that findings of the investigation so far have not been officially shared with the MoneyHero team.
