I was curious to see a report from my friends over at TUAW.com saying that Singapore had cracked the top 10 of countries with highest Mac OS X market share. I thought I’d dig a little bit deeper and see exactly how other Asian countries compare.
Turns out that Japan’s Mac fans are not far behind, and actually ranked above Singapore until the middle of 2010. But besides these two nations (and Hong Kong who also really like their Macs) the rest of Asia still hasn’t really warmed up to OS X. Even with significant progress made in China over the past few years, Apple’s operating system still only accounts for about half a percent of the market in that country.
All data here comes via statcounter and spans from March of 2010 through to March of 2011. Note that it does not include iOS.

Here in South Korea, according to the graph, there’s only a 1% user base and that would be totally accurate. The problem in Korea is that almost all websites are made for IE, especially shopping and banking sites. Most everything runs ActiveX, so anyone with a Mac can’t use OS X to view Korean websites. So you see a lot of Macs running Windows here.
