If you’re serious to lead, this video is a must watch. In a TED presentation, Simon Sinek shares a discovery he made about leadership and explained it using the golden circle, encompassing “why”, “how” and “what”.
A lot of leaders and advertisements promote the “what” idea. For example, “what is this product good for” and “what can it do for you”.
But in most cases, people don’t just analyze the functional aspect. Decision-making goes beyond the mind. What the heart feels counts too. To convince the heart, we have to sell our philosophy, to convince people to believe what we believe.
Sinek gave a lot of examples (Apple, Wright Brothers) on how successful leaders usually made it by selling their philosophies. On another note, an entrepreneur who focuses on monetary benefits without driving the business with a belief, usually fails to succeed (catch the TIVO example).
Great leaders inspire and we follow great leaders not because we have to, but we want to.
