The Infographic of the day series visually expresses important stories from Asia and the world of technology.
We have an awesome graphic to share here on a lazy Sunday evening. Market research firm Global Web Index has designed a gorgeous infographic that visualizes how the world uses online social networking services, categorizing behavior types into four main groups:
- Active social networks users
- Messengers and mailers
- Content sharers
- Joiners and creators of groups
The behavioral data is based on detailed questions Global Web Index asked as part of its study into the ways that consumers use social networks across the globe.
In one glance, the map shows how various countries use social networks differently. From a macro view, countries in the West use social networks mostly for messengers and mailers. In contrast, in the East sharing content is the primary activity on social networks, except for Australia which pretty much follows the western behavior.
Overall social network activity in Asia is extremely robust, namely in Indonesia, Philippines, and Malaysia. Each of these countries has more than 10 million active social networks users, scoring 50 percent in each of the listed activities. It is worth mentioning that Singapore, a country with only about five million has two million active social networks users. When we last checked, more than 40 percent of Singaporeans were on Facebook.
