2009 looks like a good year for Facebook.
Last month, we saw how Facebook successfully converted its traffic to revenue along with a good forecasted valuation.
More recently, it acquired FriendFeed and its talented team and introduced real-time search and Facebook Lite, which aims to penetrate into more countries.
To top that all off, July traffic statistic from Compete has been more than just great for Facebook. It shows signs that Facebook could be catching up with Google and Yahoo, possibly very soon.
Though overtaking these 2 giants could still take some time, it certainly has cemented Facebook’s leadership in the social media horizon. With Facebook Lite coming its way, Facebook would probably experience faster growth as it breaks into the densely populated China, India and Russia.
How about Twitter?
Though its growth has been remarkable this year, occasionally stealing limelight from Facebook, it is still pretty far behind the giants. After battling last week’s DDoS attack and facing the possible effect of Facebook’s acquisition of FriendFeed, CEO Evan Williams and his team are dealing with more challenges than ever.
What is more worrying is it has yet to convert its traffic to solid returns. So what now, Twitter?

I think the biggest thing that Twitter is facing that its not your usual networking web site. You have to understand that most of the people that are using Twitter atm are already on other social network site like Facebook, Bebo, Myspace. The platform on their sites are aimed to share your pictures customize your page (with some extent Twitter does to) play games build networks of friends coworkers etc. And to notify your 200+ friends what are you up to today.
Twitter took that one function and proritized it as the main focus and if a general person will not figure out to use this to their advantage you have mostly teens twitting. But if they do figure out Twitter is full of information which I found entertaining I guess on Twitter is important who to follow to be interesting enough but not overwelming.
All in all I give it some time and I think Tweet will find himself with the top Social Networking cites.
