Coins.ph plots move beyond crypto to daily money app

Numerous crypto platforms have attempted to bring their services to the mainstream over the years.

For instance, Coinbase launched a Coinbase Card in 2020 that lets cardholders buy coffee with their cryptocurrencies. The company has also loaned over US$1 billion as of October 2025, letting users borrow cash against their bitcoin or ethereum holdings.

Coins.ph is eyeing a similar approach. Most known for its crypto trading services, the Philippine firm wants to go beyond crypto and become an all-in-one financial app.

Its first step is layering services like cross-border payments and remittances on top of its existing offerings.

The future is on-chain

Crypto trading has still served Coins.ph well in 2025.

โ€œWeโ€™ve been profitable for almost nine months now,โ€ CEO Wei Zhou tells Tech in Asia.

Thanks in part to a surge in the crypto market driven by US President Donald Trumpโ€™s pro-crypto stance, Coins.ph reached breakeven in the second half of 2024 before turning profitable in 2025.

According to Zhou, trading volume on its platform grew 20% last year. He adds that the company also achieved full-year operating profitability and hit its revenue target of between US$50 million and US$100 million, though he declined to share specifics.

With institutions and regulators in the US are already taking steps towards tokenziation, Zhou believes all financial products will eventually move onto the blockchain.

Coins.ph already offers services like bill payments and money transfers using fiat money. Users can hold both crypto and fiat currency in their Coins.ph wallets.

Most Filipinos use one app for paying their bills, another for taking out a bank loan, and a separate one for managing their crypto holdings, Zhou points out.
