App store analytics service, App Annie, has just released its Game of Phones infographic, and as big Game of Thrones fans here on this blog, we’re really kicking ourselves that we hadn’t used that phrase in a headline before [1]. But in addition to a bad-ass title, the graphic has some interesting insights into the war between iOS and Android, where a key battleground turns out to be in Asia.
App Annie points out that two of the top three countries for iOS downloads are now Asian, with the USA out front with 28 percent, but followed by China and Japan with 18 and 7 percent respectively. In contrast, it says that Google Play still has a long way to go in Asia, because in countries like China and Korea, Google also has competition from alternative app stores from mobile operators and platform owners.
Interestingly, Japan accounts for 10 percent of iOS revenue and as well as 10 percent of Google Play’s revenue. The nation represents the second fastest growing market for Google Play after Brazil.
You can check out the graphic in its entirety below for a complete overview of this epic battle.
